                                    SUSAN CRAVE ROSEN

After many years of wanting to paint, I found time to pursue my art when my husband Paul and I retired to Virginia in 1994.
I  began
painting in oils, using Helen VanWyck's books as a guide.  When I tried watercolor and discovered the tremendous challenge of this medium, I felt that I would learn invaluable lessons about drawing, color, composition and design, many of the necessary components of fine painting in any medium.  I studied with many nationally-known watercolor artists and then returned to painting in an opaque manner.   I am convinced that the acrylic medium offers me the most exciting and creative options as I move forward as an artist.   It's a wonderful thing to love something and try to put its essence down on paper or canvas. Watching the paint move on its own or with my prodding....the act of making a picture....that's the reward.  If I like the finished painting, it's a bonus!
